Indirect Questions
Indirect Question: a polite or formal way to ask for information
Introductory Phrases:
- Could you tell me.....?
- Can you tell me...?
- Do you know....?
- Have you any idea...?
- I was wondering.....?
- I"d like to know.....?
- Etc.
The second part: Rule 1
The verb to be comes after the subject.
Example 1:
- Direct question: Where is Thiago?
- Indirect Question: could you tell me where Thiago is?
The second part: Rule 2
Change the direct question in affirmative form.
Example 2:
- Direct question: Where do you play basketball?
- Indirect Question: I'd like to know where you play basketball?
- Important: You eliminate the auxiliary it depends of the question.
